What is the JACKSON PROMISE ZONE?
In April of 2009 The Jackson Public School District was named a Promise Zone by the State of Michigan. Promise Zones are tax increment financing districts that capture a share of the growth of Michigan's state property tax. This provides a public revenue stream that combines with private contributions to pay for the scholarships.
The Jackson Promise Zone's scholarship program was created to help students graduating from JACKSON HIGH, LUMEN CHRISTI, JACKSON CHRISTIAN, TA WILSON AND da VINCI that live within within the JPS Promise Zone (JACKSON PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT) to pursue further education after high school, and to enhance the growth, stability, and economic development of the Jackson County Region.
As a Promise Zone, The Jackson Promise must raise the funds to be self sufficient for two years... so a $2m FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN WAS launched in 2011 AND WE ARE STILL WORKING TOWARDS THAT GOAL BEFORE ANY SCHOLARSHIPS CAN BE GIVEN OUT.
CURRENTLY OUR THE JACKSON PROMISE ZONE HAS RAISED $73,000
Once fully funded The JACKSON PROMISE of financial assistance will provide an eligible student with the financial resources to pay for tuition and mandatory fees at Jackson Community College ("JCC") to cover an Associate's Degree within 6 years of start date, or the financial equivalence of 60 credit hours at the JCC tuition rate toward the total cost of tuition and mandatory fees at Baker College of Jackson, Spring Arbor University Jackson Academy for Manufacturing Careers.
